How transparency is handled

Before saving the JPEG, the image is placed on a white background. You can't choose a different color in the current version. To preserve transparency, use PNG.

Will JPG be smaller

Photography often becomes more compact, but reducing the size is not guaranteed. The converter uses 92% quality and does not adjust the result to the specified number of kilobytes.

When to choose JPG

JPG is suitable for photos and images without transparency. For diagrams, small text and logos, JPEG compression can add noticeable artifacts: in such cases, it is worth saving the original PNG.

Frequent questions

Is the converter suitable for screenshots?

Yes, if the screenshot is saved as a PNG. For small text, PNG usually gives clearer borders, so compare the result before sending.

Is it possible to make a JPEG with a transparent background?

No, JPEG does not support transparency. Save the PNG if you need a transparent background.

Is it possible to convert PNG to JPEG for free without registration?

Yeah. The current version does not require an account and payment. Processing is performed in the browser's memory.

What new formats are supported?

BMP, GIF, static AVIF and regular TIFF can be converted to JPG, PNG, WebP or PDF. Only the first frame is saved for a GIF, and the first page is saved for a TIFF. TIFF: RGB, grayscale or palette, LZW compression, ZIP, PackBits or uncompressed; BigTIFF, tiles, CMYK and fax compression are not supported yet. AVIF requires a browser with support for decoding it.

Where are my photos uploaded to?

Nowhere. The conversion is performed in your browser. We do not send photos to the server and do not save them in the account. When the page is closed or refreshed, the queue and results disappear.

What limitations does the converter have?

Up to 20 files at a time, up to 30 MB each and up to 100 MB in total. Images up to 50 megapixels are supported. The speed depends on the device. On a phone, it's better to start with a small package and keep the tab open.

Is the location and date of the shooting saved?

EXIF, geolocation, and other metadata are not transferred. HDR and additional Live Photo frames are not saved: the result is a normal static image. The originals remain unchanged.
