TIF and TIFF: what is the difference

Extensions .TIF and .TIFF belong to the same format. Renaming does not change the compression, color model, or number of pages.

01

Why does one TIFF open and the other doesn't

Inside TIFF, different compression methods, color models, and multiple pages can be used. Support depends on the specific viewer or decoder, not on the length of the extension.

02

How to get JPG, PNG or PDF

Add TIF or TIFF to the converter. The supported first page can be JPG, PNG, WebP or PDF. When JPG and PDF are selected, transparency is replaced by a white background.

03

TIFF restrictions on the site

Regular stripe TIFF files with RGB, gray image or palette and LZW, ZIP, PackBits or uncompressed are supported. A multi-page TIFF is processed only by the first page. BigTIFF, CMYK, tiles and facsimile compression are not supported.

04

How to save all pages

All pages require a viewer or converter with multi-page TIFF support. Our common PDF can combine the first pages of different TIFF files, but does not extract all pages of a single TIFF. There is no export to TIFF here.
