PNG and transparent background
PNG can store transparency, but translating a photo to PNG by itself does not remove the background.
Save an already transparent image
If there is an alpha channel in the original WebP, PNG, or supported TIFF, the converter transfers the transparent areas to PNG. For a GIF, the transparency of the first frame is transferred.
Why does the white background stay white
There is no transparency in JPG. The white area on it is part of the picture. After the JPG is converted to PNG, it will remain white. To remove the background, you need a separate editor or selection tool; now there is no such function on the site.
Check the result
The viewer can show a transparent image on a white or black background. Open the file in the editor with a checkerboard background to distinguish the viewer's background from the pixels of the image.
PNG, JPG or WebP
Choose PNG for transparency without additional lossy compression, WebP for transparency with compression. When choosing JPG or PDF, our converter will replace the transparent background with white.
